kevin wood: The man behind the hustle

Kevin Wood, a dedicated father, husband, and seasoned CrossFit affiliate owner, has a story that’s as inspiring as it is motivational. Residing in Riverview, NB, with his family and two dogs, Kevin is a man of many talents. He thrives both on stage as an actor and as a speaker on mindset, challenging the notion that he’s anything but average. Overcoming a self-imposed narrative of mediocrity, Kevin has embraced a new story, one of resilience and relentless pursuit of greatness.

Embracing CrossFit - Kevin’s definition of fitness is synonymous with CrossFit, a journey he embarked on back in 2006, long before it became a household name. Starting in his living room, Kevin transformed from a slender 155-pound individual into a formidable 200-pound athlete capable of tackling any challenge. CrossFit didn’t just reshape his physique; it also saved his mother’s life, enabling her to survive two strokes. This profound impact has fueled Kevin’s passion and dedication to the program.

His fitness resume is impressive, with 23 GORUCK events, including two 48-hour challenges, multiple Spartan races, marathons, triathlons, and a top-five finish at the Masters Pan-Ams for Weightlifting. Kevin’s fitness journey is a testament to the power of resilience and determination.

Kevin’s day begins the night before, meticulously preparing his breakfast setup. His mornings kick off with a hearty meal of four eggs, an ounce of cheese, a banana, three strips of bacon, fish oil, vitamin D, and a protein shake, ensuring he hits over 70 grams of protein before stepping out the door. His commitment to fitness continues with 4-5 morning workouts each week at CrossFit Moncton, where he takes part in the workouts he programs, leading by example.

Kevin’s approach to nutrition is simple yet effective: “don’t eat like an asshole.” Although he once followed the Zone diet, he now focuses on including a source of protein in every meal. Four years ago, he decided to give up alcohol, a choice that started as a 30-day challenge and turned into a lasting lifestyle change. This decision has contributed to his overall well-being and performance.

Resilience, grit, and a love for challenges are at the core of Kevin’s values. Balancing the demands of fatherhood with his personal ambitions, he acknowledges the support of his wife, who has made numerous sacrifices to help him achieve his goals. Their partnership is marked by mutual support and daily moments of reflection, even amidst the chaos of parenting.

Kevin’s parenting philosophy centers around leading by example. He involves his 10-year-old daughter in his adventures, whether it’s rock climbing or shooting hoops, demonstrating that actions speak louder than words. His goal is to inspire her to embrace new challenges and develop resilience through shared activities and experiences.

As for CrossFit Monton, the mission is to build 10,000 Resilient Humans, fuels Kevin’s daily grind. He believes that resilience is the cornerstone of a successful life and strives to lead by example in fitness, nutrition, and mindset. By breaking down limiting beliefs, he aims to show others their true potential and help them achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Looking ahead, Kevin’s long-term goals include competing at the Masters Worlds for weightlifting and writing a book, for which he already has a title. His ultimate aim is to continue supporting his daughter, nurturing her growth into a resilient and capable individual. Kevin’s journey is one of constant evolution, driven by a desire to inspire and empower others.

Kevin has played an integral role in my journey as a CrossFit affiliate owner, we have very similar mindsets and for that I owe him a lot. Not only that, he and I are very close friends and I love this dude and his family.
